This is how to install toilet flange spacer

how to install toilet flange spacerIn a recent bathroom rehab project we were working on, we ran into an issue. We had decided to rip out the old vinyl flooring in one of our rental units and install tile. When we did this, it left the toilet flange slightly below the floor while for the windows we got great curtains using a Curtain Walling Installer just for this. I had never thought about toilet flange spacers. Nor had I thought about the fact that I would need to know how to install toilet flange spacer. However, this is a very important thing to be aware of in order to avoid leaks and smells coming from between the flange and your toilet. This is a very easy fix that we will go into detail below.

How to install toilet flange spacer.

This should not take longer than 15 minutes and is low on the difficulty scale. These next 4 steps are for a typical flat flange spacer. Please be sure to read further down for our recommendation on the best toilet flange spacer to use.

  1. First, start by ensuring the old flange is clean and the new toilet flange spacer can sit directly on top of it.
  2. Next, apply a liberal amount of wax or silicone on the bottom of the flange extension. Then, set it into place. Most of all, make sure to align the bolt holes on the flange spacer with those of the old flange. You can always repeat this step with an additional spacer if additional height is needed.
  3. Slip the bolts into place and tighten down the nuts with pliers.
  4. When the flange extension is set in place and the toilet flange is once again 1/4” above floor level, you can proceed with setting the toilet using a deep seal bowl wax.

I would highly recommend the Set-Rite Toilet Flange Extender. By using this flange spacer you can skip steps 1 and 2 from above and be highly reduce the risk of leaks. Most noteworthy is the fact that it will accommodate multiple heights, has a single piece that extends down into the drain pipe, and is code approved.
